Kaplan identified music videos as a post-modern form of the media. This means that they subverted and disregarded the expected conventions of film.
She came to this conclusion due to the fact editing in a music video is meant to be noticed by the viewer, however, continuity editing in the majority of other visual forms of the media, such as film, it is not.
Kaplan also recognised that music vidoes were a hybrid form, as they were part advertisement and part entertainment.
